Some of the most extensive personal development that occurred during my time at Appalachian was through the trips offered by Outdoor Programs. As a part of my residential learning community, I was required to participate in First Ascent, a 3 day backpacking trip in Pisgah National Forest, about an hour from the ASU campus.

I was also fortunate to participate in Introduction to Whitewater Kayaking and the Intermediate Whitewater Kayaking Expedition. All of the trips fostered a sense of community and teamwork that I still remember even after the individual events of the trip have faded into my memory.
