I was not required to take a first year writing course because of AP Credit. This is a writing assignment from an Art History course that I never thought I would have to complete as part of my undergraduate education. Art History helped me to connect visual art with cultural concepts in history by understanding the different messages conveyed through formal elements of art. We were assigned a formal analysis paper for a sculpture located at the Turchin Center for the Arts on the Appalachian State University Campus. This paper focused on the formal, physical elements included in the sculpture as a way of understanding the possible messages of the sculptor.
