Through the Colleges Against Cancer Club I was able to help facilitate our annual Relay for Life event. Relay for Life is a walk-a-thon to raise money for the American Cancer Society. I have served as the Survivorship and Luminaria Committee Chair. These positions entailed planning and executing both ceremonies with help of my committee members.

The survivorship ceremony is included in the opening ceremony. This is when all survivors are honored and take the first lap to officially kick-off the start of Relay for Life. I was fortunate enough to be the speaker during this ceremony for two years. My dad is a cancer survivor and his story is my favorite to tell. Also as the Survivorship Committee Chair I was able to continue to honor the survivors at the survivor reception following the start of the Relay for Life. I loved connecting with the survivors and hearing their incredible stories.

As the Luminaria Committtee Chair I was in charge of gathering and creating all the luminaria which represented "In Memory Of" or "In Honor Of" cancer survivors. The luminaria lined the track and into the bleachers of the stadium. Alongside my other committee members we were able to execute a wonderful ceremony that gives everyone time to reflect on their loved ones impacted by this awful disease.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with other committee members and our American Cancer Society Representative who all shared the same passion to fight against cancer. Relay for Life has always been my favorite event of the year. It is truly inspiring to see so many people brought together to fight a disease that has touched us all in different ways.
